CARIB BREWERY CONTINUES TO SPONSOR GRASSROOTS CRICKET

Giant Malt High schools/Cricket Competitions began with the season’s official opening ceremony on Friday 28th March. The four (4) matches of the day, which followed the opening ceremony were Charlestown High School (CHS) versus Washington Archibald High School (WAHS) at Cayon; Cayon High School (CHS) versus Verchilds High School (VHS) at Molineax; Gingerland Secondary School (GSS) versus Basseterre High School (BHS) at Conaree and Sandy Point High School (SPHS) versus Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College at (C.F.B.C) at Sandy Point.

Mr. Steve Laplace, representative of Giant Malt and owners Carib Brewery, played competitive cricket during the years 1973-1986 and during the endeavor gained disciplines he found useful for life long living. Mr. Laplace undertook to convey this message to the youngsters, “Just like giant malt is unique, you are unique there’s only one of you. And just like giant malt evolved, you should evolve.”

Akeem Saunters of Sandy Point High School has evolved. Increasing his personal goal to be the youngest person to play for the West Indies Cricket team, young Mr. Saunders has been chosen from amongst a number of players to play for the West Indies U-15 (under 15) team.

Mr. Vernon Springer, Sports Corporate Communication Officer, in his vote of thanks to Giant Malt representative, said, “Mr. Laplace has been there for the ministry. We had tremendous contribution from the Brewery and we really want to thank them for their contribution.”

The Honorable Richard Sherritt, Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture, also thanked Giant Malt and its owner Carib Brewery and declared the Giant Malt High School/College Cricket Competition open.

Matches among competitors: GSS, WAHS, BHS, GSS SPHS, VHS, CHS and C.F.B.C will continue with matches at 10:00 on Wednesday April 2nd and Friday April 4th with semi finals on Wednesday April 9th and Finals on Friday April 11th.
